The People – Luke

What is your role at Re:Fuel?

My official role at Re:Fuel is business support, that means I’ll be helping out organising meetings, assisting in business planning and so forth.

How did you get involved in Re:Fuel?

I was on the hunt for a job during these tough times and I was introduced to Re:Fuel by the Kickstart Scheme. I came in for a chat with the directors and everything went very well, swiftly after that I started.

What is your favourite thing about Re:Fuel?

Re:Fuel caught my eye as it is something that I had never heard of before. It has really interesting, innovative ideas. And what’s better is that they’re always looking to improve in any way they can.

What were you doing before Re:Fuel?

Before I started at Re:Fuel I was at Amazon working as a warehouse operative. Nothing too special but it was interesting to see how the largest company in the world was run. I met some really nice people there and gained some valuable experience.

Tell us about your home life!

I live in a small town near Exeter, I play football for the local team or at least I did before it was suspended for Covid! And just like any other bloke, I love to go down to the pub with my mates and sink a couple of beers.

What do you do when you’re not working?

A lot of my time at home is dedicated to my dogs, I have 2 golden retrievers that are a lot of work and need a lot of exercising. I do love walking my dogs as getting some fresh air is important to me.

What car do you drive?

Not to brag or anything but I drive a bright red Nissan Micra. The car used to be my sisters and when she moved away I took the reins of the mighty Micra! It really is a massive contrast to some of the cars here but with a bit of luck I might be able to have them in a race!

What is your favourite drive?

I wouldn’t necessarily say I have a favourite drive since any drive can be a little bit wary with my old car but on the odd occasion I’ll find a good spot. For example, I was driving into Exeter the other day along the A30 with the sun setting on the horizon blasting ‘In my life’ by The Beatles.

If you could go anywhere Where would it be?

Easy one this is. Australia. Love the place. It’s sunny, beautiful, warm, relaxed. Couldn’t ask for more! And just to top it all off, I have a few cousins out there that I visited on holiday way back when I was about 9. Best holiday of my life.

Tell us something we don’t know about you.

I enjoy cooking a lot. My specialities lie in cooking meats and especially steak or at least that’s what I think. I love a good steak! I definitely think I’ve perfected the recipe!

Why Exeter?

I was born and raised here. I didn’t have a choice in the matter. No, all jokes aside Exeter is a lovely place that is my home city and most of my mates live here still.

What are you working on right now?

Quite a few things, mainly just getting settled into the business and how things are run around here.
