Re:Fuel Partners with Bowel Cancer West

Today’s a big day.

We are officially announcing our 2020/2021 charity partner, Bowel Cancer West. We were approached back in March by one of our Re:Fuelers who just so happened to work with BCW and asked if we could meet up for a coffee, have a chat about what they do and meet some of the team. Then COVID reared its ugly head and, well, need we say more!

Fast forward a few months, and once the restrictions had been eased, we finally got the chance to meet and get better acquainted. Re:Fuel was looking for a 2020/2021 charity partner as we feel it’s important to use our platform as a way of raising awareness of not just good causes, but causes that can often be forgotten or overlooked.

One in every 15 men and one in 18 women will be diagnosed with bowel cancer during their lifetime. It is the second largest fatal form of the disease: second only to lung cancer. It’s also the fourth most common cause of cancer and yet an alarming number of people fail to get tested for it. Current trends also show substantial increases in cases found in young adults, demonstrating that it’s not just something that can affect over 55’s. It can affect anyone.

In these unprecedented times, it seems that non-COVID related charities have taken an absolute battering and whilst it’s important to support those fighting on the frontline; it’s even more important to remember that issues such as cancer diagnosis and care are still there and still need to be supported.

Bowel Cancer West fund research, raise awareness and provide training to those operating (or just starting) in the bowel cancer field.

“It’s brilliant to be partnering Re:Fuel for the next year and we are already working on some terrific fun ideas for Re:Fuelers. We work tirelessly to ensure the survival rates of people in the West of England diagnosed with bowel cancer are the highest in the country. Our work is essential to make sure there is early detection for those unfortunate enough to be diagnosed, and the support of Re:Fuel will help us achieve our goals.”

Jon Gripton, Bowel Cancer West CEO

We’ll let Jon expand upon the operations of the charity and what they’ve achieved in a separate blog post but suffice to say they are really making a difference in this extremely taboo field.

“We’re very proud to be supporting Bowel Cancer West. Our aim is not only to raise some much needed funds to support the incredible work that they do, but also to help raise awareness amongst our audience. In particular how common this form of cancer is, and how early test and diagnosis is vital to save lives. We absolutely cannot wait to work with their team to bring some exciting special events to the Southwest automotive community.”

Dan Regan, Founder of Re:Fuel

You’ll be seeing more of Bowel Cancer West throughout the 2020/2021 season, with plans in the pipeline to host some collaborative automotive-themed events to support the charity. We cannot wait to show you what we have in store but for now stay safe and happy travels!
