Bidders from all around the UK will be able to snap up some great items over the next month, whilst supporting both Southwest businesses and the staff at the Royal Devon & Exeter (RD&E) and Exeter Nightingale hospitals.
This week we’ve launched “Southwest Re:Action”: a month-long online auction of donated items, which will raise money to purchase experiences and gifts for frontline workers at Exeter’s RD&E & Nightingale hospitals. As a way to also help support our much-loved local businesses in the region, all gifts will be bought from local, independent, Southwest businesses that have been hit hard by the COVID-19 confinement.
HOW IT WORKS
1) You bid on and get to win the great items donated – we hope you enjoy them!
2) We use the money raised to buy gifts for the NHS staff at Exeter’s RD&E and Nightingale hospitals.
3) We only buy from the Southwest’s much-loved local, independent businesses to support them through this very tough time.

During the COVID-19 outbreak, these frontline workers have put their own lives at risk to care for those infected by the virus. At the same time, the lockdown of the economy has damaged many much-loved local businesses, some of whom are days away from bankruptcy. Obviously, we ourselves have been unable to open since the outbreak hit, and have been working hard on finding ways like this to interact with and support the community around us.
Southwest Re:Action is an online auction that allows the public to bid on some unique items, some of which money cannot normally buy, and all of which have been donated as part of the initiative. Items being auctioned include passenger rides in a Ferrari F40, a children’s ride-on car, an artist’s drawing of your vehicle, Re:Fuel merchandise and much more. 100% of the money raised in this auction will then go towards buying gifts, vouchers and experiences for the staff at Exeter’s RD&E & Nightingale hospitals, like vouchers for meals at restaurants, coffee shop gift cards, experiences at local spas, and other similar treats. All of these gifts will be purchased from local independent businesses, supporting them and their employees in their hour of need and helping them survive the incredible strain that Coronavirus has put them under.
Last month we raised £1215 for NHS Charities Together with a similar auction, but this month we decided to do things slightly differently. We wanted to bring our support closer to home by recognising our local healthcare heroes while simultaneously supporting our fantastic local independent businesses.
Items can be added during the auction, so anyone wishing to donate an item to help raise money can contact the Re:Fuel team on info@re-fuel.co.uk. The auction works in a very similar way to eBay, with the highest bidder at the end of the auction winning the item. The auction starts at midday on 15th May and closes at 8pm on Sunday 21st June.
