Martyn and his Porsche 911 Carrera 4

  • by

Arguably the most well-known sports car to ever be produced, the Porsche 911 s a true icon within automotive history. During 2020, we were lucky enough to have Martyn in attendance at the Re:Fuel meets in his eye-catching Porsche 911 Carrera 4 (996). Upon the cars launch Tiff Needel described the 996 as possessing a “second to none” driving experience whilst being “better in every way” than the previous generation 911. So with Martyn’s example having a range of both performance and aesthetic improvements over the original version who knows the levels of praise it would have received!

As a kid I had many pictures of Porsches on my walls in their natural and modified state and hoped that one day i would own one. In 2018 the opportunity arose to own the Porsche I have today, a 2000 Porsche 911 Carrera 4 (type 96).

After a lot of researching and looking for an example that suited my taste and budget, I took the plunge and bought a standard car with a factory fitted aero body styling kit. The car had a few performance modifications to the engine and a remapped ecu which took the 3.4 flat 6 298bhp engine to 320bhp and 288lbft of torque. I know that it’s not much by today’s standard but it suits me just fine for now.

After a year of ownership, I decided to give the car an overhaul as I had noticed a few blemishes etc. I decided I wanted a colour that stood out and saw a later model with a colour that just worked. A substantial strip down and with all bodywork complete, I had it painted in Voodoo blue with black accents. The colour is my favourite part of the car and whether it is clean or dirty, the colour stays vibrant.

A few months after the car’s revamp and new image, including custom rear wing, wheel spacers and paddle shift conversion, I drove the car to Germany and took it through its paces on the Nurburgring and I was so impressed with how it handled and its use of power. Being careful and not wanting to damage my new baby, I managed a bridge to gantry time of 9:12. Definitely something I want to try and improve on at some point in the future.

I have some plans for the future to include body modifications and suspension so watch this space!
